Skin diseases- causes and remedies

Skin diseases encompass a wide range of conditions that affect the body’s largest organ—the skin. These conditions can result from infections, allergies, environmental factors, or genetic predispositions, often leading to discomfort, itching, inflammation, and visible changes in the skin’s appearance. Proper care and early intervention are key to managing these issues and maintaining healthy skin.

Common causes*

  • Infections: Bacterial, viral, or fungal infections can lead to conditions such as impetigo, ringworm, or herpes simplex.
  • Allergic reactions: Exposure to irritants, chemicals, or allergens can trigger contact dermatitis and other allergic skin responses.
  • Autoimmune disorders: Conditions like psoriasis and eczema arise when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells.
  • Environmental factors: Prolonged sun exposure, pollution, and harsh weather can damage the skin and exacerbate conditions like sunburn or dermatitis.
  • Genetic predisposition: Family history can increase the likelihood of developing certain skin diseases, including acne, eczema, and rosacea.

Home remedies*

Try these simple and effective remedies to reduce or get rid of various skin diseases:

Aloe Vera gel application

Apply fresh aloe vera gel directly to the affected area to soothe inflammation, reduce redness, and promote healing. Its natural cooling effect can be especially beneficial for sunburn or irritated skin.

Turmeric and honey mask

Mix a small amount of turmeric powder with raw honey to create a paste. Apply this mask to areas affected by acne or eczema to leverage turmeric's antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, then rinse after 10–15 minutes.

Neem leaf paste

Grind fresh neem leaves into a paste and apply it to the skin to help combat bacterial infections and soothe irritation. Neem is known for its potent antiseptic properties and may help clear up minor skin infections.

Oatmeal bath

Add colloidal oatmeal to a lukewarm bath to relieve itching and dryness associated with eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions. Soak for 15–20 minutes to allow the soothing properties to work.

Coconut oil moisturisation

Use organic coconut oil as a natural moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and reduce dryness. Its antifungal properties also help manage minor fungal infections.
