Knee pain- causes and remedies

Knee pain is a common issue that affects people of all ages. It can result from injuries, arthritis, wear and tear, or lifestyle habits. According to Ayurveda, knee pain is primarily caused by an imbalance in Vata dosha, leading to dryness, stiffness, and inflammation in the joints.

Common causes*

  • Osteoarthritis: Degeneration of cartilage due to aging
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis: Autoimmune inflammation of the joints
  • Gout: Build-up of uric acid crystals in the joint
  • Injury or trauma: Sprains, ligament tears, or fractures
  • Obesity: Excess weight putting stress on the knees
  • Sedentary Lifestyle: Lack of movement leading to stiffness and muscle weakness

Home remedies*

Try these natural and effective Ayurvedic remedies to relieve knee pain:

Turmeric & warm milk

Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of warm milk and drink daily.

Ginger & honey paste

Ginger helps reduce inflammation and improves circulation. Mix grated ginger with honey and apply it to the affected knee for relief.

Mahanarayan oil massage

A gentle massage with warm Mahanarayan oil soothes stiffness and pain. Massage the knees in circular motions before bedtime.

Fenugreek seeds

Fenugreek has warming properties that help with joint pain. Soak a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds overnight, chew them in the morning

Hot & cold compress

Alternating between warm and cold compresses can reduce swelling and improve circulation. Use a warm towel for 10 minutes, followed by a cold pack for another 10 minutes.
